September 25, 2024

This is a notice to provide an update on the wastewater service to the Ellicott School District #22 (“District 22”). The Ellicott Utilities Company, llc (“EUC”) is a private utility company that offers wastewater services to District 22 and other properties in the Ellicott area.  EUC’s wastewater system is operated and maintainted by Cromwell Excavation, Inc. (“Cromwell”).

District 22 is connected to the EUC wastewater system by a lift station that is exclusive to District 22. This lift station  has a primary and back-up pump system with overflow wastewater storage capacity in the event both the primary and secondary pumps fail.  This event occurred sometime on September 24, 2024.  THERE HAS BEEN NO DISCHARGE FROM THE SYSTEM AND NO CONTAMINATION FROM THIS EVENT.  This is how the system was designed to operate and it is functioning as designed.

Presently, Cromwell has been working to evaluate the cause of the pump failures (both primary and back-up) and coordinating with District 22 to reduce the flows to the lift station effected.  In the interim, Cromwell will continue to have the lift station’s storage pumped by a truck to assure there is not discharge of wastewater.

In addition, Cromwell will work with both EUC and District 22 on a solution for repair to get the lift station operating so that there is no need for a reduced discharge to the lift station.
